Israeli banking has modernised significantly with digital banks and apps, but the basics still require in-person visits. You'll need a bank account for salary deposits, bill payments (which are often paid by direct debit / hora'at keva), and receiving Bituach Leumi payments. Branch availability.
Credit arrangements.

Israeli bank fees are regulated and comparatively transparent, and Bank of Israel explicitly encourages consumers to compare charges and negotiate with their bank.

Don't Accept the First Fee Structure

This is one area where being politely persistent can save money.

Bank of Israel operates a fee-track framework. As of July 2026, the supervised basic track can cost up to NIS 10 per month and includes a defined number of basic transactions.
