Israeli shopping has evolved significantly in recent years, with large supermarket chains, online delivery, and international retailers. Understanding where to shop, what to expect, and how to find products from home will make daily life more comfortable.

Shopping is one of the quickest ways to realise you've moved country.

Brands are different. Prices are different (comprehensively more expensive). Supermarkets feel different.

Familiar products sometimes cost considerably more.

Supermarkets

Israel has national chains alongside discount supermarkets, neighbourhood stores, markets and specialist shops.

Don't assume one supermarket is cheapest for everything.

If household costs matter, compare:

Fresh produce.
Meat.
Cleaning products.
Nappies/Diapers
Toiletries.
Imported goods.
A useful app to check out is called CHP (you scan or enter the bar code and it shows the prices from different supermarkets/pharmacies).

Online Shopping

Online grocery delivery can be extremely useful for families, particularly when juggling work and children.

Check delivery charges, minimum orders and substitution policies.

Familiar Products

Anglo areas often have shops or supermarket sections carrying British, American and other imported products.

They're useful when you desperately need the cereal your child has suddenly decided is the only edible food on earth—but imported products can carry a premium.

Anglo Dad tip: Israel has excellent local products. Use specialist imported shops for things you genuinely miss rather than recreating your entire US/UK supermarket shop. Pharmacy products often can cost 3/4x your home country so stock up when you go back.
